voltage stabiliser Q

put volt meter across it.

as you are looking at the trident with the 3 prongs facing down i have tested the middle and left hand one and got bang on 10v (ok 10.01v).

seeing as im getting a spot on reading is it likely to be the guage ? if the sender was stuffed would i see a reading at all ?

my bentley manual says good voltage means stuffed guage but no mention of sender.

ideas?

mmmmm

bentley is canada/us spec.

other side of trident is 12.6v ish, should they both be 10v? if so think we have the answer

If this is the voltage regulator behind the dash, then the 12.6v reading is the input voltage from the battery. The 10v reading is the regulated supply out. So the regulator seems to be in working order.
Test guage with a supply directly to it. If it works then its the sender, wiring or connectors that aren't good.

cheers chap.

if im getting a good reading at the VS does that mean sender is ok as its sending a signal?

call me thick - whats best way to test guage?

if i take it out of pod will it be obvious where i can wire it up?

Just wire the gauge to a 12v supply (battery for example). That'll test it.

The voltage at the sender unit does run through the gauge so if you have voltage there then the gauge is probably ok.
If you have access to the senders connections, just connect the two together and if the gauge springs into life then it is the sender that is your problem.

Small world! Top Banana closed a few years ago after Tantra at the amusement arcade in Sheerness took over! There's flats where the old cinema building used to be that Top Banana used.

put 12v across it (cheated - pulled stereo and put a jumper from stereo live feed :D )

guage went up to where i guess it would/should be (3/4 full)

wiring at sender then ? tel me its proper easy on a syncr!!

found sender easy enough on side of tank in nearside rear wheel arch.(syncro)

couldnt get platic 'multiplug' (2 wires) off - am i missing something -its proper tight(even with persuaion/pliers)

anyway-sprayed it to death with leccy cleaner after peeling rubber cap/cover off. with ignition on got a measley 0.01 volts across +/- sides.

good/bad ?

if its a duff sender can you do it in situ if i run the tank to almost empty and steam clean it to death to stop gunk getting in?
