What color is the alternator wire?

Hey guys!
I have recently restored an 81 transporter. I bought it in almost scrap condition and installed a Toyata 3C-TE turbo diesel. The van was all complete and original when I bought it so the restoration was pretty much straight forward.
My van was originally a 1.6 diesel. I am trying to wire up the new alternator with the battery light in the cluster but I can't find the right wire. Every thing else s wired now and I only have two wires left, one is red and black in the original wiring loom that runs to the engine bay and the other is a blue one that emerges from the back of the right tail light when facing the back of the van.
Can some one please tell me the color of the wire for the battery light in the cluster? I am checked the LED in the cluster which was blown so I replaced it with a new one.
Any assistance is welcome... Cheers!

Does the LED come on at all ie. when ignition only is turned on?
Easily done too but did you get the new LED in the correct way round? You may know this already but thought I'd mention it just in case!

Errr yes, excuse me. I did that, changes all my LED,s and did not know that they were polarity sensitive.
Motor Factors £1.40 Maplins £0.18 Just checked mine and yes it is the blue one. Mine has only three cables on it and I think I am right in saying that the "thick" red one charges the battery, blue one dash charge LED and the other cable comes live when you switch on and "excites" the alternator and makes electrum stuff !

Thanks guys! I did not know that they are polarity sensitive.
No it does not work with the ignition. My electrition connected a wire from the cluster socket to led and it did work.
I will check it again now.

And yeha I now have one red and black wire left in the wiring loom in the engine bay.
Any idea what that is for? My setup is running a simple glow plug circuit i.e the glow plugs would work for 7 seconds irrespective of the engine being hot and cold. As i understand these cars have more of a dynamic glow plug system, thats how it is in my MKII golf 1.6 Diesel and turbo diesel and T25 share the same engine and the original glow plug relays look the same too.
So is the red and black wire related to the original glow plug wiring?
Thanks!

The only red/black cables I am aware of anywhere near the engine bay is for the brake lights or starter motor solenoid from ignition. There may be one I can't remember though!

Thanks man.
The starter solenoid is already wired and those wires are generally thick ones..brake wire would be tail lights loom.
This is a really thin one.
