high pitch whining noise

Hi
Can anyone give me any clues as to what the strange noise is.
Got my alloys taken off and the original steels put back on the other day and i noticed a really high pitched whining noise from time to time. It happens at various times, not just when cornering or changing gears. Thought it might be the wheel bearing but does it in a straight line as well as corners. Could the garage have upset something when they changed the wheels?
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
Ned

maybe a stone caught in the disc area or after market pads fitted? sometimes these can squeal when driving along, a little copper grease on the back can help or chamfer the lead edge of the pad with a file.
just out of interest what wheels did you take of? and why?
I am running standard steels but really want some original carat alloys....

ned, thanks for the e-mail.
the originals look fantastic... food for thought, my van is the same colour as yours and white would look good... but I am thinking going black would look good too ?
what size are the Fuchs?

Can be something inside the tyre.
Many years ago my brother had a high pitch whine (in his Austin 1300 - that gives an idea of how long ago!)and it turned out to be a bit of rubber that got into the tyre and was whizzing around and causing the whine as it run over the ribs of the inner part of the tyre construction. Only found out when the tyre had a puncture and this rounded lump fell out as the tyre was removed.
