Setting tappets

Hi Guys, this is probably a real numpty question so apologies in advance

Quoting Si Baxter, the engine has to be stinking hot when setting the tappets so Im just a bit worried about my fragile little pinkies around a hot engine.

Do you take the rocker cover off and then warm the engine up, or is that just gonna end up with oil droplets sprayed all over the place?

What about the different sized discs?

Until the measurements are taken and the current discs compared with whats needed, you don't know what other sizes, if any, you might need. Just staring out this wonderful new adventure of t25 so don't have a past collection built up.

Hopefully if changes are needed having first considered whether they can be interchanged between the four at first to cut down on what might be needed. By the time you know which alternate sizes you might need, the engine would possibly be cold again, especiually working at the careful methodical numpty pace that Im likely to proceed at.

Hints n tips very welcomed.

We'll presume you have a TD not a petrol then.......??

if he says hot, then take it for a good drive.. then take rocker cover off.. measure each one while hot, record the results.. then you can allow it to cool I would imagine and then if any need removing/adjusting you can do that.. if the prev mech has fitted them correctly the size marking will be underneath...( I believe), some may be swappable.. but no way of telling what you might need until you have measurments....
