Just bought our 1st new camper, shes a German 1.6td left hooker, its a Reimo conversion with no mains power inside at all.

Would anybody recommend having power retrofitted such as a leisure battery etc or just go for one of these??

Very new to camping so I dont really know, does anybody know what would be involved in having the camper converted for electrics? what would my options be??

It depends what you want from your van.

If you want lights on at night, the radio, an electric water pump etc then fit a leisure battery on a split charge circuit. That way you're not draining your starter battery when you're parked up.

Mains hook up is useful if you're spending most of your time on camp sites and for pre-chilling your fridge before you leave home, keeping your leisure battery charged up etc as well as having the sockets, but don't forget you mustn't overload them.

There's lots of info on the "how to" side of things on here and it's not too expensive for the parts, the money from the trailing lead would be better used towards these and fitting things properly in my opinion.

Thanks for the advice!!! I just have a standard van at the moment, no mains, no power, nowt!! we are thinking of a trip to France/Europe next year so having some power whilst on the road will be nice for the fridge and phone charger etc. I have now ordered a hook up cable for campsites etc but will look into getting a leisure battery fitted with some sockets etc.... Cheers again!
