Oh, there it is! Who's silly idea was it to put it on that side of the wheel?

Okay, now Ive found where the speedo cable goes into and out of the wheel, I think the speedo drive is kaput, deceased, shuffled off the mortal coil.

Where the cable comes out (once the hubcap's off, the circlip taken off, then the 'thing' on the centre of the wheel) the cable doesnt seem to be held firmly and can be rotated without the wheel turning - so presumably the speedo drive is knackered? This is what a garage said to me (...a year ago...) I think, but its taken me a little while to do anything about it...

Am I on the right lines? Anyone know where I can get a working speedo drive?

Is it something to do with the square hole getting rounded off?

Thats what the guy at JacksGarage said to look for - but I think its a little tricky to tell as the whole hole has been worn away! It packed up a year ago, so presumably the cable has been sitting there all motionless while the drive spun around it, wearing away to nothing... I guess?

Ok this is a common problem, at least for tightwad northerners like me sen..

If there is a hole through the end of the cable itself then stick a peice of welding rod through it and bend it over the bearing cap and secure it with a jubilee clip.

Cost one x clip = satisfaction level 10/10

Thanks for that, mike, I'd never have spotted that hole in the cable - whats it there for? It looks like its been added especially for bodging!

One bit of random wire from the depths of my garage and a sturdy cable tie and voila, working speedo!

or do like some rough a#$e did on mine before i bought it and WELD the speedo cable to the grease cap
