Strange problem - My 1986 T25 goes throught he gears (4 speed petrol) no problem, until it has been running about for a while. After this, first and second gears are sometimes hard to get into, more so first. Have not got around to looking at it, as just back from Dunkeld in Perthshire in it, so looking for some advice from the more experienced out there.
Its nice to be nice - but so better to be nicer !

I am lucky in having a friend who sorted my van out which had the same problem. If you can get it up on a ramp its much easier, as what you need to do is lubricate all of the linkcage from the front to the back. Its really made a difference, no more dreading changing gear after an hour or so's running.Hope that works for you too. Val BettysBabes

hello there,i had exactly the same problem recently on my 84 devon t25 watercooled,i tried greasing all the linkage bars, which worked for a few days then i was back to square one, then i bought a linkage repair kit and gear lever repair kit off ebay, which is still in the box unused, and after all the messing around it turned out to be the clutch slave cylinder by the passenger rear wheel was knackered!once it was replaced the gear change was back to how it should be,hope that helps steve.

Thanks for those suggestions, I will be looking into them after I get home, as I am working away from home at present.
Will let you know how I get on !

Sorry, forgot to update this post.
I did as suggested by greasing every movable part and it did help.
But the bleeding of the clutch master cylinder did the job, gear change is
a lot better, and no crunching at all.
Thanks to you all.
Jim.

Yep, check the clutch slave cylinder. Have a look inside the rubber bellows below the cylinder, mine was full of fluid yet I couldn't see a drop of fluid beneath the van. If there is fluid there, then the seal will most likely be worn but it's cheap to get a repair kit from JK & easy to sort out.
You could also try bleeding the slave Cylinder, if there is air in there, that most likely points to the same thing. I had to do this a couple of times to get home from a trip. The gear shift was much better for about 25 miles or so then it started to behave like yours.
Best of luck with it anyway.
Geoff.
