Behind the dizzy there is a threaded hole. Just wondering if I have something missing?

Could be mistaken, but isn't that the retaining thread for the distributor clamp bracket?

I'm pretty sure the clamping plate that holds the dizzy in place is secured by a bolt in that hole. Without it your distributor will ride up out of the engine and won't be doing a great deal of good!

Nope, clamp is all there and happy.

The hole is to the left of the dizzy clamp. When I poke something in there is something in there about 10mm down.

just had a look, to left of distributor clamp bolt.
mine has something the same and it performs absolutely no purpose!
there are also couple of other useless holes in the casting so may allow for design mods or some other options the engineers considered.
