Looks like a vacuum line plastic thingy. Can see where it should have been connected at the bottom. If it just fell out my guess is its historic and has probably already been replaced as it would normally have hose connected either end (thats why the top looks cleaner).

I think its called a vacuum check valve, notice the two colours to show direction of flow.

closest net picture I could find.

Ah sorry missunderstood your post then, I thought you may have needed help identifying it. I pressume you need to obtain a replacement then, can you not go into your local parts place and say "I want one of these please" and show them?

Though to be honest I cant see why you cant use any check valve that has the same hose fitting, as its just a one way valve?

Well it isn't a brake vacuum one way valve it's much smaller than that.
If I had to guess I would say that it's a washer jet one way valve to prevent the washer fluid draining back into the tank after use.

I think he said it was connected to the carb at one end, so it will be a vacuum (air) check valve (one way valve).

Tiniest fuel filter I've seen! T25's usually have big ones underneath chassis.

Also it would stink of fuel and probably would have been damp, would have given it away straight away, plus original poster has already acknowledged that its a one way valve.

If you look at bottom of picture you can see where bottom pipe bit is broken off.

Your cheap VW fuel filer (too small for T25's - typically) I cant see it being one, not saying it isn't just not convinced yet!

just get a standard fuel non return valve.

It doesn't have to be a plastic VW one. It could be one of these..

Although check your fuel hose size.
