hi folks
ive got what i think is a mad idea but its probably been done before,im always a little late being origanal
,ive been looking at painting my bus with rustoleom as im abit strapped at the moment and was impressed with the treads about it but i love the look of hammerite and im thinking can it be done in that ???
its enamel based like rustoleom and i think it will self level ,i like the embossed look to it and thought it would look good when the light catches it

any thoughts on my idea???????

It would work but wouldnt really be my cup of tea and it has been done before, by my Dad, but not on a T25 I hasten to add

buy a small tin and tryy it out on something other than the van..but i think rustoleum is a better product tbh mate
my van was totally rollered in hammerite when i bought it and it had turned into a matt finish .wasnt nice

maybe ill rethink it??? or ill just leave it the original pastel white,,one to ponder on for a while

ive been experimenting with some paint i was given.it is enamel based floor paint in green.i sprayed it on to a spare sliding door runner cover i had and im well impressed with it but im gonna wait a few days to see just how it hardens and how well it sticks to the panel..so far its looking good

Just bear in mind you'll need an angle grinder to flat it down once its cured - not the greatest paint to deal with further down the line as anyone who has ever had to deal with or remove it will tell you. Rustoleum has similar properties but more flexible than Hammerite and much easier to work with. Getting a consistent pattern to a hammered finish isn't easy either....

Mine cut back ok with compund but then again I laquered on top of the hammerite.

thanks for all the posts and the great pics but im still unsure as to take mine back to bare metal mite bring up more work than im capable off.
i have decided that im going to use rustoliom as that seems to be more flexible than hamarite

Rustoleum will protect just as well though arguably not as tough as Hammerite but I honestly don'y think Hammerite should be used on the main body. Its not that great underneath but I have used it INSIDE sills. There have been a few posts from people who bought campers that were painted with Hammerite and they cursed whoever did it, having to use paintstripper in some cases to get it off. You don't need to go back to bare metal. If most of the paint is firm, its better to key it to take fresh paint and just deal with any corroded areas on an individual basis.

I would consider Hammerite too brittle for a body work top coat, but thats just my opinion based on using it for chassis use, etc. You can roller or spray virtually any enamel based paints which are available in any colour you want from auto body paint specialists. Once you use an enamel (of any description) there is no going back to Acrylic unless you primer seal the entire van.
