ict 34's and centrifugal distributors

Hello all

i want to install some ict 34's on my 2.0 L air cooled engine.
i don't want to do away with the electronic ignition and go back to using points but the webers as they are do not accommodate a vac advance.
is there any reason i can't 'branch' a vac line from the balance pipe to vac assist the existing distributor?
or tap into the manifolds?

to get correct advance you would need to tap the carb body in the right place.. vac off the manifold or balance pipe will nonly provide constant vacuum, no good..
Check with a carb expert if they can be drilled.. the ICT was fitted to petrol bedford CF's so IIRC they did have a vac advance tapping.. maybe its poss to re install..
Dont be tempted to use the 009 it has the wrong curve and most are poor replicas of the original and dont have enough advance in any case...

Thank you for that.

how come there's a constant vacuum using the balance pipe?
wouldn't there be the same by tapping into an inlet manifold?

and thanks for the heads up on the 009 - was on the point of buying one on ebay.

ok, get wot you mean with the manifold vac now. it would have to tap into the main body.

uh... who told you webbers don't support vac advance? I have webbers on my van and they both have vac take offs

Vac take off is the lower red cover in this pic of a new ICT carb... (ICT and ICH bodies are the same BTW - just the ICH has a different top and some have fuel shut off's)

If your mounting the carbs on the existing manifolds then make sure the balance pipework is left in place - Laurrie Prettit (look him up on Volkszone etc regarding ICT's) has had some good results with a balance pipe when running ICTS
