Brake lights malfunctioned

Both the two of them have gone dead.
Bulbs are ok and the fuse is in one piece.
I've checked the wiring diagram and see that the next port of call is the brake switch, where is it please?
What may have happened and, if it's not the brake switch, where do I look next?
Electrics not my forte so would really appreciate a layman's answer.
Many thanks,
Richard

The brake light switch/switches are underneath the speedo binnacle.
Pull it up from from the rear (next to the windsrceen) 4 screws a speedo cable and several plugs to gain access to the master cylinder and brake light switch/switches.
If you are quick they can be changed without the need to bleed the brake system.
Fluid pressure operated.

You may not need to change the switch, as the terminals often corrode and fall off

Thank you, both.
Being of a somewhat nervous electrical disposition I rechecked the fuse, the wiring diagram and the Haynes Aircooled.
The required fuse should be 8A, the one in slot No. 8 of the fuse box is 25A (very grey with a thick metal strip). Now I appreciated this may not be a problem, but why would a higher rated fuse be there?

I heeded your previous advice but also went down the road of checking further the electrics.
I wouldn't like you to think me rude and would just like to point out my additional post
'Brake Lights - Electrical'
where I'm still struggling to resolve my problem.
Thanks,
Richard
