Yup, my friend has done it. Only my opinion but WHY ? Lot of messing about with manifolds to get you off the mark a bit quicker and maybe pull you up hills a bit better. It is a good reliable 1.9 in a three ton plus van. On the block is cast either 1.9D or 1.9D & TD the latter having oil piston squirters to keep the pistons a bit cooler for the turbo when fitted. Thats just me though and if thats what you want to do then good but I believe getting your gearing correct is the most beneficial thing to do. Now someone convince me that a turbo has benefits because I am not sure !

only reason I did the first one was because of a knackered JX so already had turbot, fannymolds and sump

was nice though, no changing down on hills, cruised nicely at 65-70 on motorways, would spin the rear wheels in first and gave 35mpg however it was driven..

I do like the 1Y engine, if in doubt just bang it in, great upgrade for the 1.6 or 1.7 oil burner, doesn't need a turbo but can always easilly be added

AAZ's are rare these days, the 1Y and variants are cheap and plentiful

Sorry if Im crashing the thread ?
The 1Y ran well strted well and seems sweet but it was just one more thing to do and after van being worked on most of year (on and off) just want to use it :D I know better than to expect any sort of performance but will be happy with a bit more.

There you go then. No real positive replies for fitting a turbo ..............................climbs hills better but cruising speed makes no difference, a turbo surely gives more grunt on the bottom end but will not make your dear old van go faster. It is what it is and my dad (84) spins his wheels in his little Clio  Keep it simple boys and she will get you there.
