diesel engine temp wiring - to many wires!

Hello, I've finally completed a 1y conversion on my 1981 westfalia. The van had been messed about with before i got it and had a JP code N/A 1600 diesel installed (from a golf?). Various wires were piggy backed onto one another, but the gauge and warning lights worked. My problem is that i've got a bit confused with which wires go where, and now the temp gauge isn't working, so could someone please clarify which of the following go where...

There are four blue wires:

1)Blue with white stripe -
2)Blue with thin yellow stripe
3)Blue with thick yellow stripe
4)Blue with black - to sender on end of block

But only three terminals...

1)sender on end of block
2)sender on spout out side of block (aluminium)
3)on end of oil cooler/filter

Any help would be much apprciated!

2) is the sender for the temp gauge.

Thanks ringo, so do i put both wires with the yellow stripe on this one? And the remaining one with the white stripe i think, from finding a post on brickyard, is the one that tells the glowplugs how long/weather to go on - any ideas for where this one attaches?

How many wires does yours have, what colours are they and what do they conect to?

Sorry about all the questions, but i've tried various combinations with no joy and so if i can find for definate that i have them all connected correctly i can work back and check gauge, wiring etc

Thanks again

Had same problem but it was at the other end under the dash pod cover. The connector block pin was corroded and hanging off so i hard wired over the top and the temp gauge worked again and the clock and dash lights. May not be the case with yours but a worth a look. Cheers Kev :roll Just realized this post was from 2005 lol but might help someone else!!!!
