Alternator adjuster bracket wrong??

I have just fitted a new Alternator belt as mine was slipping, When fitting I noticed that the support arm/adjuster appears to be wrong as there is no way of moving the alternator to adjust it.
Im guessing that at some point the correct one has been replaced with this ' temporary ' fix...... does this look wrong to you guys?
The slot that I would have expected to be the adjustment is at the bottom but it is not possible to fit around the other way because of the shape of the bar.
1.9 DG.
Thanks Mart.

Looks to me as though you need another hole closer to the end that is currently(!!!!!!) by the alternator then it could be turned the right way round.

That adjuster bar is the wrong way round!
You need the slotted end at the alternator and the bolt hole attached to the block.

The hole is in the wrong place hence my post.

I'd agree... although it looks to have a slight curve in it (unless its a distortion from camera) so it aint the right one anyway... either home made or off something else.. whip it off and whack another 8mm hole near the end and refit the correct way round.. you may have to fit it with the curve the other way though...
looks like you'll have a bit more adjustment too.. unless you drind a bit off the end instead and fit a slightly shorter belt...

I don't know these petrol engines but is that the normal length belt? 1075? Just that it seems a bit long to me. Most probably not original size if it's a bodger's bracket.

spot on 1075 is the correct length, I was unsure of what was the right one so I ordered both from Brickwerks just incase! the other standard size is 1100 and fits the higher amperage alternator IIRC .
Thanks for the help guys, I think that the adjuster bar is from another vehicle, its not possible to fit it around the other way as the hole is to far up the bar if that make sense! I could grind the metal down to make it fit but I dont think that it would achieve the desired result as I think the bar is too short.
It could also be that the alternator fitted isnt the original VW one, if the pulley was a different diameter then this would cause adjustment issues too.

It would be longer if you put another hole in at the end!

Alternator looks to be right...
As we have said.. take it off, drill another hole closer to the end refit the right way round.....
OR.. Billy"numbers" or one of the other breakers on hre should have the correct part..
