Hi

I have a Komet which has revolving seats. In order to remove the main battery I have to dismantle the seat (as the turntable gets in the way).
I do not use the tuntable on the drivers side, so it would be great it I could get rid of it.

Has anyone removed the turntable, and re-attached the seat straight on the runners, if so is it a straight forward job.

It might be different on a komet, but on a Westy at least you dont need to remove the seat to take out the battery - just rotate it through 180 degrees.

Depends on the battery but yes you do have to remove it usually. 'It' meaning the circular bit and the rectangular bit that actually revolves with the seat on it. The 'base' is welded to the existing runners (as far as I can see) so totally removing might be a bit of a pain - plus if you just remove the driver's side, the driver and passenger seats will be at differnt heights and might look a bit odd.

If it was a Westfalia you could probably just turn it - if you had the time what with fixing your pointless fridge fan, asking questions about the kitchen unit control panel that don't work, wondering how the hell the battery charger worked and trying to trace uncomprehesable wiring and fuses; easier just to remove the swivel.

I have to remove seat as steering wheel stops me turning through 180'.

If it is welded on, then I shall have to think of a "Plan B".

I will have to have a drink and give it some thought.......

The swivel comes in three sections, the circular 'fixed' bit, the revolving flat section with the seat attached and the base which is welded to the original runners. You don't need to remove the welded bit to get the battery out.

You should be able to revolve it past the steering wheel - it takes a bit of careful jiggling of the back and arms, but it is possible...

I'm sure Horns is right about being able to jiggle it past the steering wheel, but I've never been able to manage it. I find it easier to slightly turn the seat, slide it all the way forward, release it from the runners (small triangular lever on one side) and then remove the seat. You can then spin the turntable bit through 180 degrees and this gives full access to the leisure battery compartment. This is for a Westy though.

Last time I did it, the fore and aft adjustment lever and all its 'gubbins' fell out and took a while to refit. On the plus side, it turns out the reason it fell out was because the runners were coming unscrewed from the seat ! Both sides now firmly torqued up.
