Fridge (RM122) - jammed knob!

Hi all - I've searched but couldn't find the answer to this one - I may need a gas fridge expert!

My old school RM122 still works fine, but the knob has jammed, meaning that although I can turn it up and down with a set of pliers (and it still lights and works OK), it is always pushed in, so gas seems to flow through it whenever the gas bottle is switched on. Suboptimal, bordering on pretty dangerous I reckon!
Gas safety valves seem to be on sale for the RM122 http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/carava ... Valve.aspx, but presumably these are for the new one. Anyone know if it'll fit the old one too?

I also wanted to put a fan on the fridge and have seen thread's from westy owners that refer to a thermal switch already on the fridge. I don't know if I have one - what would it look like, and if I don't have one does anyone know of a simple solution to wiring one in?

Cheers,
John

Find yourself a local caravan breakers in your area, they usually see hundreds of these type of fridges every season and tend to throw most of them in the scrap, be a devil and ask if you could have one to play with, you never know it might just end up being better than the one you have a present, then all you will have to do is swap the control unit over or have it to hand when you find someone to do it for you.

Have you tried copious amounts of wd40 in it - I am always having to do that on the knobs on the hob in my kitchen in the house.

Cunning plans gentlemen thanks. I have already tried the old WD thing (well, I couldn't use gaffa tape could I? ) but thinking about it, I could try it again now that I've got the unit out.

Caravan breakers sound like a plan too - I think there's one in S Wales that does mail order so I'll do some digging.

Cheers

You could also try Kingswood Caravans which, surprisingly, are in Kingswood

They have a guy who services gas fridges, but you will have to take it out the van i think. Perhaps give them a ring first.

Best not to dick around with gas fridges; better to sleep easy knowing its been done properly imho!

Cheers

Cheers mudlark - I know Kingswood caravans but didn't know they had a fridge/gas person. Hopefully we'll catch up in Bristol sometime - I heard you were at Syncro 25 but didn't even manage to say hello there! I assure you it's nothing personal!

Anyway back to the thread.... It's proof that even the most obvious of advice can be helpful - with the fridge out and on its back loads of WD40 (well, double T actually) + 24hrs + lots of forced movement have freed it up and it's now more free than its ever been! Must remember to try the obvious myself before posting next time...

Hope to get the fans sorted now before I go away to try and keep the beers cool in what I hope will be lovely hot France!
