Installing Rear Wheel Bearing and CV on T25

Hi all, I am having a few problems with the rear of t25 and really need some help. here goes :)

There are a few sounds
- When starting to drive off sometimes there is a small knock (maybe CV)
- when turning left there is a rough scraping sound coming from left hand side (assume wheel bearing but seems to be coming from wrong side)

I have been under the car and pulled on everything the cv joint has a very slight 1-2mm max movement on the wheel end CV - is this too much? Could it be finished?

I have jacked the back up with no hand brake and noticed a slight play on both sides when going 12 - 6 hold but not massive, should there be any play at all?

If it is what i suspect - rear bearings on both sides and CV on passenger side rear how hard is it to change, well more the question how many problems am i likely to have :). I have the tools (46mm socket, breaker bar etc) but am going away Thursday and wonder if I should just get a garage to do it and if so any reco's for Manchester way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!

Thanks heaps !!
Tim

when cold there's play at 12 and 6 but shouldn't be hardly any in 3 and 9, the inner bearing is a c3 grind so there is some play, there's no taper bearing; at worst the actual bearing carrier is worn and bearing is loose fit in it; use good bearings and bearing fit if doing the job.
Grinding sound when cornering usually giveaway worn bearing, the drum is rubbing on the backing plate under side load.
CV's have in out play it's play in the plane at right angles to the shaft sign of wear in cv, my only be affecting one ball out 6 so you have to have a good feel

Hi Aidan thanks heaps for this!! I couldnt really feel any 3 and 9 play but will check again tonight.

it certainly sounds something like you say "drum is rubbing on the backing plate under side load" - bearing it is then :)

The play is at right angles, if it is only one ball do i need to replace the entire CV?

Is it a difficult job to replace it? have done plenty of bearings on other classics (minis, fords etc) but have read some bad stories about the T25s, should I just leave it to the mechanic?

Thanks again!!!!
