Well my rebuilt 2.1 engine is in the van, everything is connected up the only thing stopping me firing it up is the oil filler tube.

I tried to get the plastic tube onto the metal pipe that bolts to the engine before it went in the van but couldnt do it so i just put the engine in to worry about it later.

I still cant get the plastic onto the metal pipe, and after looking at fitting the metal pipe to the engine i cant tighten up one of the nuts.


After searching on here i read someone used a bent ring spanner to get the metal pipe onto the engine, so hopefully that will work.


But how do i get the plastic tube onto the metal pipe?

Ive tried forcing it and im damaging the plastic ot the bottom of the tube,there isnt a big enough gap between the inner and outer skin to get it on the pipe.

I was thinking maybe put it in boiling water then try?


If anyone can help i would really appreciate it, once this is on I can start the van up!

Sorted had to put the tube in hot water and make two small slits in it to get it on the metal pipe, its still nice and tight

should never have taken it off, Bentley is wrong about that

No i realise that now, could be worse only needed a couple of little cuts.

Used a bent spanner to get one of the nuts on the metal pipe best i could, then used a flat blade screwdriver and a hammer to tap the nut round abit further.

i have a modifyed spannerto do this job, the same one that was bent, ground down and shaped for getting the last silencer nut on a early zorst silencer....

How are you supposed to pull out/up the oil filler tube on a petrol variant van? Do you twist it (left/right) before pulling up, or simply pull up? Mine seems a little relunctant to pull up so naturally I'm cautious about forcing it. Ta

Don't pull it out it's a mistake in the instructions, keep the whole tube intact and undo the two stud nuts on the engine if you have to remove it - it's possible to drop the engine with the pipe on and it will clear the rear valence, you have to bring the exhaust shield down with the engine which can be a pain with the 4 m6 rivnuts at least one of them has usually got too much rust above and spins the rivnut but it's easy enough, and not much more effort to drop engine and gearbox together and separate on the floor

Do you mean pulling it up as in extending it to top up, or do you mean pulling the whole assembly up as in to remove it ?

sorry, yes it just pulls out, just a friction fit, you may need a pair of pliers to grab hold of the lip I guess if it's real stuck

It's stuck good n proper, was afraid to force it so I thought best to post a query just in case it's a twist turn job. I guess the friction fit stops oil leaking when fully extended, but in theory the top up section ought to fit inside the lower section...from a design point of view.

T25 Oil filling tip =

Get summat like washing up liquid bottle, the type that is flattened in shape not fully cylindrical, or (I use) a hair shampoo bottle.

Take or cut the nozzle off it.
Cut a big hole in one side of it.

Makes a handy "sideways" funnel for topping up T25 oil.

I keep mine in the van, (wrapped in a plastic bag to stop mess and oily smell).
