Just changed the oil and filter on the van. Boy was that filter stuck fast !

Neighbour gave be a good tip which worked tho (had no special filter removal tool), jab a screwdriver into the old filter to help get purchase on it...after much swearing it finally worked !
Good tip

(One has to wonder why neither the oil strainer or old filter had gaskets on them tho :( )

This is an ancient way of doing it ... not clever though as you get oil everwhere and risk knackering the thread in the center, and even less clever if the filter you've bought doesn't fit ... don't laugh it's been done.

The filter shouldn't be that tight, just nipped up hand tight. If you always over-tighten filters treat yourself to a strap wrench, they're 4 or 5 quid.

Didnt have much choice. No way of getting to Halfrauds with the oil drained, and I wasnt going to put the new oil in with a filter full of cruddy oil.

Fact is it was on too tight, nowt I could have done to prevent that.
