THERMOSTAT LOCATION

Evening everyone

I would appreciate your help again on the location of my thermostat. I think its in the bottom of the water pump where the return pipe from the radiator comes in. Is this right? I,ve just been on a run for about 15minutes and checked the engine afterwards and the engine is hot. But this bottom return hose is still cool. Yet the two pipes to the left of the return pipe are hot on the water pump on my AAZ engine. I don't think the thermostat is opening, and thats why I think I have circulation problems to the radiator.

Can anyone shed any light on this please.

Daz :ok

Thermostat is in the plastic dome at the bottom of the water pump. Correct

The other two hoses are:-

1. On the left. The bypass hose which is open until the thermostat is wide open, when it is shut off diverting flow to the rad.
2. In the middle. The returm hose from the reservoir loop, which is never shut off.

The return hose from the rad will always be cool, unless the thermostat is wide open and the engine is working seriously hard, or the vehicle has had no airflow through the rad for several minutes.

The thermostat won't be fully open until the engine is 87C, so after 15 mins the return hose might reasonably be still cool.

There is an air bleed screw top left as you look at the radiator. Open it a smidge, and let any air out while the system is hot and under pressure. If loads of air comes out, there's your problem (or one of them). If just water comes out, that's good.
