:ok 2 things ... if you fill your profile in we'll know where you are and there may be fellow owners in the area you can meet up with and who (eventually) may be willing to help you. And please use punctuations (no-one's going to say you put a comma where you should have put a full stop) it makes your posts easier to read.

Cheers, Ian.

Ian's pointed you at the right Wiki topic there :ok

But you need to say exactly what the engine is, 2.1 MV or DJ (with or without exhaust lambda (02) sensor) and model year?

Once you have the fuel filter renewed (and have eliminated that) move on to checking earths, starting with the heavy engine and gbox ones, then the multi star-earths and bulkhead ones.

If its an MV, I'd be disconnecting the lambda sender at an early stage (tie wiring up safely out of the way)... it should run 'open loop' quite OK for diagnosis.

But do make sure you let us know the engine type and any other symptons... ve 'av vays of 'elping you fix eet :idea

It could be as simple as a partial fuel filter blockage. Check along your fuel line. If you find a filter with crap in it, that could be the problem. I had this problem once. I Changed the fuel filter and away we went again. :ok Patrick

Or as complicated as an intermittent E.C.U.!!! I say this because I had exactly the same symptoms and replaced several hundred quids worth of parts during which time I was recovered about eight times and aged about ten years. Finally a nice person lent me an E.C.U and all was well. Apparently this is a very rare fault but virtually impossible to diagnose apart from substitution as all the vital signs are there - sparks, fuel, injector pulses etc.., but it just would't go! Don't get too depressed though as like I said that was a very rare fault.

Does sound a little like the AFM may be causing this. If you unplug the AFM the engine will start for a second, then die. Is this what is happening. It will only run for a second or two and will not be able to rev at all. If this is the symptom look at the plug and wiring. The plug has a wire hoop you need to press to release. Its at the back of the airbox afm.

You know that was my symptom but my AFM was good. So I guess it was the part of the ECU which read or was in some way involved the AFM signal which had the intermittent fault. Not that I intend to delve into that little box of tricks though as I do have a life!

My van started kangarooing Monday half way up a steep hill and just about made up, also on a hill on way home. Replaced distributor cap and also rotor arm as both looking abit dicky anyway and due for renewal. Didn't help. Then checked fuel filter. Was blocked not at the filter interface but at the step down hole size in the entry end of pipe bit of the filter Blocked by a smidgin of something like cheese. 2 curled flecks of paint and a bit of hardened rubber possibly from previous cutting of petrol hose. New filter £1.75p
