So the 'new' BFG mud tyre has been out for a while now.
What is the feed back at this stage, I noticed at least one set at Syncropendane.
Are they as good as the old ones off road and better on road (which I'm guessing was the intention looking at the cut pattern).
I know this topic has made an appearance on another thread, but think it deserves some constructive depate by those running the new ones.

contact 'crankinwagen' as he has run both. I think he reckons that the older ones were better on road.

I'm running the new ones and am very happy so far as quieter than the old pattern colways I had before, haven't tried them on the road wet much but I'd expect them to be same as any MT on wet tarmac

I have used both. Very similar road noise and road manners. Still to use my MK2's in the mud.

I think you will have a job to get the KM1 tyres, I tried unsuccessfully to get a sixth one (245/75x16) to complete the set I bought from Russel.

Your right, contacted our supplier up here and they can't get KM1's anymore. They had a few on back order then the KM2 was released and that was the end of that.

I wonder if these will maintain the KM1's position as the prestige tyre of choice for the syncro owner wanting the best off road without sacrificing (too much) on road manners and longevity?

i have the km2s on my 16" westy. i think they are ace but i cant compare them to the originals. they are a bit noisier than my old bfg at's but don't make much noise at all. they are mainly used on the road and i drove to Switzerland and back on them at easter with no problems. they feel slightly less positive on the motorway in the wet though but were ace in the snow. i havent found any really good mud yet so cant tell you about that but we have plenty of sand here and they are fine in that too.

Biggest resion for the design change was probubly something to do with reduiced rolling resistance and fuel economy - tyre manufacturers are getting pestered into fuel efficency too now, and like car manufacturers they might feel the need to trade off on performance to achive this, though I doubt BFG would want to mess too much with off road performance given their reputation.

The Td5 110 at work runs on them and I was quite impressed driving it with the windows open, certainly aren't very noisy for an MT, which should help economy.

KM1's will probubly become a legendry tyre like the old Trac edges, where people try and aqure sets and bost about how great they are and why the yanks got them banned. Got a worn one on the bonnet of my landy and its surprising how many people regognise it and pass comment, though I've notices sets on vehicles recently and also pass comment. That said last year I had a set on the landy and it drove crap - maybe they wern't bad when new but they've been out of production for at least a decade now so whilst the debate of KM1 Vs 2 is probubly only in its infancy, KM1's are only going to get older and it won't be long before a new KM2 will beat a KM1 (all of which will be much older) hands down when it comes to wet tarmac, when you want grip.

I've just ordered a set 245, 75, 16's for my DOKA. Not convinced they'll fit but that's a minor problem, they'll look the part

I bought a set of 215-75-15 KM2s and fitted them to Passat steels on my Tristar. The are less noisey than my Hankook MTs and handle really well on the road. Only had some mild off road thus far, but was really impressed with the way they handled a pretty steep inclined gnarly rut covered in wet grass. Was pretty sure I would experience some wheel spin, but they coped effortlessly!

Also, had to do a 40 mph emergency stop the other day, and I had no brake lock up or skid. My kinda tyre

245/75/16 will need a lift and a clearance on the arches I think, Russel runs them on his special Tristar and Doug has just put them on his Doka and had to cut the rear arches, his fronts had already been moved back previously.

mine are 235 70 16's and they are pretty snug on the front. i couldnt go any bigger without some alterations.
i had done my calculations to try and get the same diameter as the swedish winter tyres which were on it when i got it but didnt take into account the tread depth which is epic on the bfg's.

So there on a high top westie, is that with standard 16" suspension? I guess my 16" DOKA should be a fair bit lighter and therefore higher to start with.......

I'll see how I get on when they arrive and post pics I can see a lift kit being ordered soon!
