Any recommendations for camping on IOW – Thinking of doing a couple of nights, one weekend in August. Cheers

Mate, there's loads.
It depends on your preferences really; quiet hidey hole, big park with all the amenities or something in between (there are huge differnces in cost too).

But there are loads about that we havent been to. I'd like to try some of the smaller quieter places as the kids grow up and fly the nest but a year or two to wait yet!

Trouble is, there's no real favourite that is the answer for us. We tend to drift around.

join the camping and caravan club and use the d/a one thats what we did last year ..can't recall where it was tho' but every where is so close there so it doesn't matter .

Not used it but know some that have.

We're at Whitecliff Bay for bank holiday week, if you're over then and get a chance pop in for a brew or a beer.

Don't forget the second mortgage to buy the ferry fare!

Caravan & Camping site is at Adgerstone (very good), also recommend Nodes Point and The Orchards. Ninham Park supposed to be good but not stayed there and theres a new C & C campsite in Afton but can't recall its name. I live over here and have stayed in most of the above mentioned. Hope you have a good stay mate.

Yep, agree with nik_snr, my earlier post re Beaper Farm is the Camping Club site, not Caravan and Camping Club. Adgestone very clean and tidy.

WE are setting off to the Isle of Wight in a couple of hours ,

Staying at either camping and caravan club holiday meet at Dairymanns Daughters Cottage or at Stoats Farm.
As long as Vanagon runs well.
Just repaired !

We will be off to the IOW next thursday (19th) Our ferry leaves friday morning ,so does any one know off any nice sites near Portsmouth to camp over on the Thursday night We will be staying at Beaper farm when we get to the IOW and will be there until August 29th

Campsites I recommend:
On IOW, Carpenter's Park Farm near St. Helens, Bembridge, easy going, clean toilet block, massive field, chose your pitch, they don't get out the tape measure.

Near Portsmouth, Hamble le Rice, junction 8 of M27, go past Tesco's to Hamble, follow road then look for Satchel Lane on left, down Satchel Lane for 1-2 miles, campsite on left hand side. Marina is next door with bar.

About 20 minutes from Portsmouth.

Have had 'Red Funnel' sites recommended on IOW never been myself. Red Funnel is the ferry company & they own approx 4 sites. I am lead to believe that if you book a Red Finnel site you get either free or discount ferry travel.

I am obvioulsy a bit late posting this but we always stay at Roebeck Farm campsite. http://www.roebeck-farm.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's small but has a nice feel to it plus they let you have a campfire which is always the first thing on our list to be honest. They are very reasonable and only charge per person with no set pitches, hook up is only £1.50 per night too!

We are going there tomorrow actually and coming back on Friday

I know I am even later to post but recommend treking over the west side of the island (preferably the south coast) as its absolutely beautiful with stunning views of the chalk cliffs all the way to the needles. Failing that I went past this place a few weekend back and the location is superb (can't comment on the site though...):

If your over the east side of the island make sure you go to Priory Bay (just next to the campsite above) in Seaview its one of the best beaches on the island and very photogenic!
