annoying running problem!

hi there,got a 1990 1.6 td that has developed a really annoying running problem.the engine idles and accelerates fine except for at about 1100-1200rpm it appears to stammer,if it were a petrol engine you would describe it as like a slight misfire.being a diesel it has got me stumped!the engine has been serviced including diesel filter which made no difference.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
