Ive joined the engine cases on my waterboxer engine and have tightened all the nuts up, apart from one.

One of the threads on the top of the case is threaded at the very end, but i cant get a nut on enough to get it onto the rest of the thread. If i can get a nut past the start of the thread i think it will be ok.



I cant use a die as there is nowhere for it to turn, I was thinking of grinding the end of the thread and then trying to get the nut on, but dont want to do anything hasty and ruin the thread.


What do you guys reckon the best method is?

Was going to suggest you examine thread through a magnifying glass all the way around and dress the area causing the prob with a tiny file. Could be tough steel to file though - worth a try perhaps.

One solution is to find a spare nut of the same thread and carefuly saw it in two across the points on the hexagon. Then assemble the nut halves past the damaged end and gripping then tightly together with a mole wench undo them so they reform the (presumably distorted) threads as they pass overthem. liers or a shifting spanner will not do. If it works it works the only risk is that it undoes the thread from the crank case in wwhich case you can go at it with a triangular needle file.
