DG distributor with MV engine / carb question

Just wanted to check i should be using my old 1.9DG distributor with my soon to be rebuilt engine, rather than using one from a 2.1MV.
I'm sure I read on here thats what should be used, just cant find the post to confirm.
Also i know the carb from my 1.9 will allow the 2.1 to run, but could do with tuning to get it spot on which i will sort out but probably not straight away.
I just wanted to make sure i wont do any damage with the carb not being jetted spot on for the 2.1, im hopefully off to Europe in a month and dont want to end up slowly starving the engine of fuel and ruining it! Thanks

i dont know about the dg engine but the mv dizzy has a hal sencor to tell the ecu when too spark, i take it that you using an mv long block (engine) and setting it up to run on a dg carb and dizzy? effectively not using the fuel injection?

Thanks

If you are using the dg carb then you CANNOT use the MV distributor.. there is no advance mech on it and it will run "pooh" and cause engine damage.. Use the DG dizzy...... make sure the vac advance is working correctly and that you time it correctly..

Thanks for the reply toomanytoys.
I will use the DG dizzy, havent looked at how to check the vac advance (not sure what it is!) or how to time up.
I'll do some searching and will consult the manual (Bentley not Haynes!)
There seems to be plenty of clearance between the van and engine when its in place, so is it just as easy to time up when the engine is back in the van than when its out?

And you are rebiulding an engine!!!!!!!
Static time it and then dynamic time it when its in... read the book.. you WILL have to read the Haynes as the Bentley doesnt cover the DG carb engines... and the haynes covers this quite well....

Ha yes im rebuilding an engine, i like to learn as i go along
After many things going wrong such as faulty new oil pump and wrong piston rings things finally seem like they are getting there, hopefully the engine will be complete this weekend ready to go back in the van
Ill have a read about timing when the engine is complete, and will get the Haynes out of the fire i put it on lol
