Hi

101 quid for a CU engine bay seal from JK

Is there any reason why I could use one of these?

http://www.machine7.com/section.php?xSec=1727

And sort of fashion it, with bits of the old one. I am actually only missing about a 18 inches on the one that I have

Cheers guys

I got a new engine bay seal, for a JX (i guess the opening is the same size) from VW commercial about a year ago.

Just wondering why you couldnt use a normal weatherstrip type seal, like a devon roof seal. After all the tinware doesnt get that hot.......does it?

Gets quite hot but enough for it to burn rubber :?

The original seal is rubber too. Just a thought

Wow! £101 is massively expensive! I thought that was a typo until I checked JK myself. The description indicates that the seal is designed to prevent exhaust gasses getting into the cabin. Surely the seal on my JX does the same thing. What's the diference?

They're slighty cheaper here http://www.status-vw.co.uk/shop/en-gb/dept_10.html but still a lot of funds for a bit of rubber! :(

Wekk i recon the t2 one will be OK at 17 quid from JK as it states that it would work for a t25

It may be shorter in length but that shouldn't be too much of a problem. I have used a T2 seal in a crewcab that I had fitted with a bug engine. I had to create tinware to fit between engine and engine bay and the T2 seal was ok but as I say, may well be short so put the gap at the back (ie above gearbox)

Just digging this thread up again as I noticed the JK website now says this isn't suitable for the T25 (under Q&A), quite possibly as they prefer to sell the more expensive one.

Did it work for you and have you solved your overheating issues?

having had an air cooled, and fitted a roof rubber, I would guess that the main difference is the width of the rubber.....ie how far from the metal of the engine bay to the engine it covers. It should lap pretty much onto the tin ware. There is no way a roof seal (if like the one I purchased would do this).

the seal itself was almost two parts - the straight edge to clip into the meal of the engine bay, then the pleated skirt that sits on the tinware.
