Is my gearbox on its way out?

5 Speed on a 1984 2.1 MV

Since i have had my van, the gear change has always been on the sloppy side, but thanks to this forum i have now replaced pretty much everything i can get hold of in terms of linkage, gearstick, gearstick ball kit, as many bushes as i could get of.

The gearchange is now super smooth apart from one thing...

When i change to third i can never get it into gear without it crunching massively, i have to keep pressure on the stick while i let out the clutch to keep it in gear, even then it sometimes pops out of gear while driving. Only ever happens with third and as i said the rest of the gear change is now perfect.

Basically its the only thing that didn't get better with the rest of the work.

Pretty sure it cant be doing much good to the gearbox, and im pretty sure its getting worse.

Is the box on its way out?

Thanks in advance!

3rd gear syncro worn out or cracked so when changing gear the sycnro ring isn't slowing down (syncronising) the speed of the shaft to match the speed of the gear which results in the dog teeth cruntching.
Needs a strip before more damage is done.

Aidan would be your best bet. Theres also these guys but know nothing about them to be fair wheras Aidan has a track record and knows T25 boxes better than the inside of his undies drawer: http://www.bearsmotorsport.co.uk/Volksw ... ge-VW.aspx#" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Have to say, £ for £, Aidan would be your best choice though. His reputation hinges on it.

Bears Motorsports have a pretty good reputation and I recommend them for the Aircooled boxes as I don't have the tools to do them
to be fair I am probably only cheaper than Cogbox ; Abbey, JK, Engine Shop and others down south offer an exchange service I can't compete with or see how they can do it for the money even using polaks on minimum wages and having a supply of free core boxes to strip for parts and massive buying power as I know they get most of the bearings from the same source as me, they still have to pay the rent, the tax man and make a profit
has anyone here had a JK box ? They reckon they sell 16 a month but I've never come across one customer apart from one who had problems and wanted me to fight his corner
