Is there any helpful tips on how to take an outer CV joint off the front drive shaft? Or is it just a case of trying to bash it off till the clip fails? Also I read that the ball barrings have to go back in the same chamber, how accurate is this?

Gay and a bit senile? You need to open the clip then use brute force and ignorance.
