bit of guidance for the unitiated

Right chaps, make it gentle please.

I know where I can obtain a K plate 1984cc (2 litre) golf GTI complete for around the £200 mark. I was offered it, and basically thought...not interested.
Then I saw the post in the for sale offering one for conversion at around the same money.

Now, Ermie hasn't had a "new" engine.

1. Is it a good engine for conversion? - does it fit, and will I have to alter the engine lid height?
2. Will it be ok on the gear box I have - 5 speed
3. When we looked at insuring the golf they wanted £450  so is it gonna put van insurance through the roof?
4. Van currently gassed....can this engine be mated to the gas system and with what modifications (currently running carb)

oh - don't worry, wouldn't be fitting it....local garage would!

so - is it worth removing the engine and ancillaries and storing for the future?

Many thanks for any pointers

Em
xx

imho don't go there, wrong engine for the vehicle, and massive amount of work to fit so unless your garage have done the conversion before and are familiar with the engine and the wrinkles and you've driven a van with such a power plant in it and like it

however there will be a good number of peeps who will say itho that it's great, easy to do and works fine
