Anyone done away with heat exchangers on AC?

Have auxillary heating and am considering a stainless system and ideally would like to do away with the heat exchangers and associated plumbing.
Do the exchangers contribute in any way to the cooling of the engine or are they purely a method of providing cab heat? Are there anything else I should consider before I take the plunge?
Thanks in advance
Stu

as most of the pipework associated with the heat exchangers is missing on my van I was considering doing the same....I can't remember who I spoke to but was told that they are simply a way to heat the inside of the van and can easily be removed (I'm sure if I've been given incorrect information someone will correct me!)

I think I will be doing this at sometime in the near future as heat exchangers are crap at heating the cab anyway, cost a fortune and the replacement set I put on just over a year ago are all ready showing signs of deterioration...
Any idea which J Tubes fit the 2.0l petrol Aircooled and rough idea of price? (soz couldn't see it on the turbo thomas site)...
Also, anyone noticed any improvement in performance as a result of using J Tubes?
Ta,
Chris

TT quoted me £225 + delivery for J tubes and £325 + delivery for silencer. TT alleges a power increase so that'll be nice too

just cut of the outer boxes and then the internal fins of your heat echangers and then you end up with j tubes

i always fancied ditching em off mine cos i reckon the fan on the alternator steals some poke.
