i have an 83 1.9 petrol engine with a pierburg 2e carb. the auto choke seems to not woek properly when cold and then come on when warm. this causes the revs to run too high on tick over and there is a smell of fuel when switched off. additionally my fuel consumption is up.

is there a rebuild kit anyone recommends, or is it better to replace the whole carb? if that is the case is there anywhere i can get a reconditioned one?

thanks everyone.

hold on
I would be checking it's operation properly first

have you removed the air duct to the top of the carb and watched it from cold?
