1Y Oil Pressure issue

HI there,

This spring I replaced my knackered CS engine with a 1Y. Everything seems fine engine starts and runs perfectly. However once the engine has warmed up, if I pull up at a junction I'm sat idling the oil light will flicker on. Giving the engine a few revs makes the light go off again, but it'll flicker back on once I've taken my foot back off the throttle.

Also when the engine is warm it wouldn't start as well. When the engine is cold it will start almost instantly (obviuosly once the pre-heat light has gone out). When the engine is already warm it sometimes needs to be turned over two or three times before it'll fire up.

Does anybody have any idea why this maybe happening?

Many thanks
Scotty

Your engine may need a shot of glowplug to get it started when warm. You could try putting a 470 or 600 ohm resistor in series with the glowplug engine temperature sensor. This fools the glowplug relay into thinking the engine is cooler than it is, and gives it about 3 seconds glow, even when hot. AEFs seem to need it.....perhaps 1Ys do too.

Excellent, thanks Colin I'll try that.

is it using oil?

Nah the oil level seems fine.

I think it's a tick over thing. I'm gonna try winding out the idle screw on the fuel pump to see if that helps.

Thats a top tip and one i may employ.

Both my 1Y's struggled on warm starts so i diconnected the sensor completely (the glow plugs always come on that way). A sledge hammer of a solution.

I'll try colins suggestion if i ever get round to it!

PS. Best bet is to connect a oil pressure guage and see what the pressures are. Its a dead easy job to fit one temporarily in the engine bay. I have one in the cab now as my BOD stopped working.
