Shetland Isles in our T25
Posted: 07 Jul 2010, 06:54
Just back after 12 days over there - wife and two little ones - can't think of a better place for a van touring holiday
Highlights -
Wild camping spots everywhere - and no-one seems to mind
A few good simple campsites
Very helpful and friendly people
Very few others around (we saw 1 other T25 and prob 10 other motorhomes)
Loads of the best beaches in the UK
Excellent weather (Except for the Force 9 gale we returned through)
Once you are there - cheap ferries to everywhere
For the kids....
Great playgrounds in every village (vital for a nearly 4year old)
Quality leisure centres in every island (good for showers and swimming!)
Great beaches
Happy parents
For the adults.....
Amazing scenery (cliffs/bays/islands)
Puffins a meter from your toes! - and loads of other (feathered) birdlife
Otters/Seals/Porpoises (and apparently Whales - but we didn't see any)
Loads of Interesting Archaeology (interesting to us)
Lots of re-enactments etc. - mostly free or very cheap
Boat burnings and costume parties....
Weather was 17-20deg (whilst down South was boiling) with some wind most days - but I know where I would rather be
May be going back next year - unless we can get on the Tor Line passenger carrying freighter Immingham to Norway - anyone tried this??
Pics will follow when I have got through the 1000 I took!!
