a really quick (if probably stupid) question

Hi

I know hardly anything about the workings or engines - but I'm trying.

So can anyone tell me if a pierburg 2e carb from an opel kadett will fit my 1.9dg?

Is there a way of finding out which pierburg carbs Re compatible? (i've seen a few 2e3's advertised but the owners says that they aren't).

If anyone can shed any light on this area, I would-be most grateful.

Jetting will be problematic as it won't be set up for a 1.9. Is your old one knackered or non-existent?

The previous owner put a solex on and although she runs okay, I thought it probably best to put the correct one on, as I guess the solex will be affecting the performance and mpg.

Can you quickly explain what 'jetting' means please? And can this be over come in anyway on a 2E ? (I've just bought one off ebay -).

By jetting I mean correct jets to dispense correct quantities of petrol both when idling and under load (ie you tanking it). Most carbs are set up for the particular vehicle they're being fitted to by the carb manufacturer so jet sizes vary accordingly. Although that carb was fitted to many models, the jet sizes varied too. You could try it and see I guess.

Yep, tis. Good point Kev. If you're going this route, a 2e carb off something else will need to be a comparable engine size. Generally the jets are big enough to do the job and no more so that should help in finding something suitable.

And there lies the rub...

I've eventually found this info out that Protexblue was pushing me toward:-

"Vergaser 2E3 Cora/Kadett - 1,3 /55KW - from 04.88 to 09.89 OEM pt no. 90107577"

Guess that means I'm a bit screwed. Unless there is a way (or a company) that can alter the jets.

Oh well, you live and learn. Committed to buying it now, so will pick it up and stick it straight back on ebay.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

BTW, is there any good manual that will help me broaden my knowledge about all matters mechanical/electrical? (I have the Haynes book but it doesn't really tell you the basic - i.e. like what 'jetting' is). Admittedly, a two page leaflet would broaden my knowledge at the moment!

Well, if it comes with an autochoke and all the bits, it may well be worth keeping for all the spares...

Scroll down for 2e3 components

http://www.vwgolfjetta2.ru/page-178.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You should be able to replace jets with ones more suited to your engine
