hiya
my 82 t25 Aircooled sometimes clicks from the rear othertimes fires up ok, im guessing its a starter fault but the starter looks fairly new, so i am going to replace the ignition stitch in case i have got the new white switch and also a new lock and barrel, but it looks as if you need to dismantle the steering to remove the old one,is there a easy way to do this or does any one know how i wire in a push button start is it just the red, and red and white leads that go to the button, it has red, red and whte, 3 black (one has a yellow stripe).
as im getting power to the ignition lights im thinking that if i by pass the final action of the switch and use a push button it will also save me having to dismantle the stearing thanks

First thing I'd check is the earth lead.
Have a look on the Wiki, there's lots of info.

Check the wire with the 6mm female spade connector on the end ... this is the signal wire and commonly known to decay and the end fester

 Nope, no thanks.

Ignition switches are cheap and known to fail eventually, that signal wire and the contacts on the strter are the real issue though.

You sound like you need to be investing in a Haynes manual.

I can't see an article in the wiki (top of the page) on this, I'm sure someone will come along who's changed theirs. Personally I believe it's the starter wire mesen.

I have replaced the barrel on mine after misplacing the keys, from past experience the barrel comes out from the action of putting the key in (Renault Master Van) however as I was minus the key a hammer was used.
I wont put how it was done or comment via any post due to security issues however you should be able to work it out for yourself by looking at the lock.
Again as above I wouldn't bother your issues sound most likely to be in the engine bay and has to be worth a go to save more odd keys.
