Hi all,

Just bought a small flat screen TV for our bus... i was just wondering (before i get the problem), how i'm going to get a good picture..?
The TV comes with the standard telescopic aerial and another magnetic body mounted one.. but i still feel this won't be good enough..
Has anyone had problems like this? what is the best way forward?
A digital aerial?
A aerial booster?
I will have power available, and i don't won't to mount an aerial on a pole outside...
Your recommendations would be appreciated..

sorry but the better aerial need to go on a pole mount either on you van or stuck in the ground! any pidly little aeriel will be cak unless your ontop of the transmitter !

I've seen people try those ariels with a built in booster and even tried it myself with pretty poor results. Then I bought one of those cheap indoor ariels off a car boot for a quid and get a brilliant picture. I just plonk it on the roof when I'm parked up.

cheers guys... think a lot f it has something to do with the area your in.. but you know what its like when you get it set up, your bound not to get a signal...

you are quite correct in thinking that the internal telscopic antenna and the mini mag mounted antenna wont be much cop. unless you are right next to the transmitter, you will need a wide band directional external antenna.

depends on taste i guess, my van is a high top so i dont need to put the antenna outside, as fibreglass is not RF conductive, and so the antenna can "see" through it, so i bought a marine wideband amplified antenna, stripped the plastic casings off it, threw the mains transformer away and power it by 12v only, and mounted it on a swivel mount in the roof of the high top , inside, out of harms way.

i personally cannot be doing with the hassle of putting up a pole every time i want to watch tv, lashing it to the van every time, but didnt want to drill the roof, its high enough now!

know exactly what you mean about the aerial pole thing, + bit of an eyesore..
i'll have to try and find an alternative solution of which is easy to take with us, not an eyesore and works well...
could be tricky...

I've been through several aerials, internal and external and even now, after having bought what many people regard as one of the best mobile aerials, the 430 (530/18-2), It can be patchy or display 'no signal' in certain areas but be brilliant in other.

I have been told (not taken the plunge myself) that a portable 12volt satalite system gets the best coverage...something like this:

OK, it's another box to carry around and you would probably need a tripod or at least a pole to mount it correctly.

we have a 12v satellite system, yes you need a tripod to mount it but once you have a signal its great! Only ever take it when were away for a while to much hassle for just a weekend!

and dont forget most areas will be digital soon and then that depends on strength of signal in area depends which you need

im lookin at the moment but i have a in car radio/tv all dancing unit but doesnt have a normal tv connection which is a pain in the butt
