Just Registered.

My dad has given me is old 87 1.7d 5 speed T25 Battle bus.

He bought it in 1992 and used it untill 2001 when the engine gave up and has been a shed ever since


I am a mechanic and i want to change the engine to a 1.9d or td .

I need to find out a few things:

1. What engine code will fit the original mounts.
2. Depending on engine of choice will i need to get a wiring loom too.
3 Other mods that need doing e.g flywheel etc.

My dad wanted me to scarp it so he could have his garage back but i talked him into letting store it there till she is running.

1.9 would be easier however if you want to go TD you will need the jx exhaust manifold, a turbo and exhaust check out brickyard aaz fitting guide

1.9 engine code is 1y

1Y will bolt straight onto the 1.7KY bell, as will the manifolds. Use the 1.7 flywheel and clutch DONT FORGET TO FIT A PILOT BEARING !!! I did not bother with the turbo thing as I wanted to keep it simple with less to go wrong. Only need the black fuel solenoid wire too. I have the four speed original box and she will cruise at 65mph but anything over that she screams her toots off. She gives 35mpg too. Sorry folks I am sure someone will enlighten me but I just dont get the turbo thing, it might get you off the mark a bit quicker and then ? ?

once you get a 1.9 engine make sure you come back and ask any questions..anything your unsure of..and someone will help you out ..the 1Y engine is a simple and effective choice

The other 1.9N/A diesel which bolts straight in is the AEF out of a Polo or Caddy etc. I've done that conversion, and we're chuffed to bits with it. I have posted a comprehensive guide to the swap on the brickyard. The installation is not a lot different to the 1Y. The advantage of both these engines is you can use the old gearbox.
