zig unit problem

am currently int he process of changing over my hi top to a pop top, all was going fabulously but today when i was putting back up the unit which holds the zig unit i discovered it is now not working. before i take the unit back down and start playing with wires (not my area of expertise!!) the 2 amp fuse on the front doesnt seem to tighten in to its hole, the fuse is ok but when you pop the fuse into the hole and turn the black pastic cover it doesnt seem to purchase on to anything???? i cant remember what it was like before, the wiring to the back of the zig was left untouched apart from removing the wiring for the light in the old hi top, however i did notice there were a couple of wires behind the zig not connected to anything!!
would the 2 amp fuse not working stop the whole lt from working - i.e mains switch, 12v switch etc
or is it likely i have accidently pulled out a wire when removing the cupboard? hence the 2 wires that dont go anywhere !
obviously i will need to check that i havent screwed through a wire somewhere
any help or advice would be great, if i cannot rectify myself and have to take to an auto electrician any ideas how much they should be charging for finding and rectifying this kind of fault??
