submerisble fiamma whale pump

Just wondering if anyone could help on this one.
water has never pumped from sink while ive had the van ( I had more important jobs to do!)
decided to have a look today and the pump is not making any noise when the switch is pressed neither is it working.
There is power to the pump and the switch is working so I think the pump is at fault.
My van is an autohomes kamper with an onboard water tank under the rear bench seat so I figure the pump is very old, are these things servicable?
I now have the pump removed and it looks like a sealed unit.
Im about to connect directly to 12v to test although I know I shouldnt run it dry but in the meantime if anyone has any ideas please give me a shout.
Sorry if i missed any info.
Cheers Jud
