in the solex carb, should there be some sort of blanking plate on the front of the carb - there appears to be a hole, about the size of a 2p just above the manifold bit and between the air bleed pipes.... what should be there? metal? rubber?
1600 ct engine, (34pcit carb) btw, just been refitted with just about everything that comes off!!!!

Not familiar with that exact carb but I do recall many solex carbs having a metal blanking plate which I presume was used during manufacture for better access when it was built.

The blanking plate should be a metal disc ,I had a Beetle with a similar carb and the disc fell out. I fixed it back in "liquid Metal" adhesive. Lasted years..

Now you;re taking me back lad. Come to think of it, I did one with araldite and surprisingly that held too. I'll wager that a similar sized coin held in with metal epoxy would probably do it if disc has vanished but chances are its laying underneath the carb
