Hi there,

Driving home last night and noticed a problem with my indicators and headlights.

With no headlights on, I noticed that when indicating, the indicator light on the dashboard would flash, and when that went out, the main beam light would come on, and they would alternate.

With the side lights on, when inicating, the side lights would flash.

And with the headlights on (dipped), when indicating the main beam light would stay lit on the dash, and the headlights would not come on but both indicators would light up and stay on.

Obviously can't drive it in the dark like this - just wondering if anyone had any advice on anything simple I could check.

id check the earths first, sounds probable

Similar problem on mine which turned out to be lose wires touching each other........ but I think I got lucky as it seems more people have experienced water getting onto the earth crowns and fuses and causing random electrical problems. Water most likely as a result of leaky windscreen.

Thanks for the advice. Finally had a chance to take a look - fuse no 7 is out. Looked in Haynes and this would appear to be the rad fan fuse. And the rad fan is still working?!?! Could this be causing the prob? Not got any fuses at the mo but will nip and get some in the next day or two.

According to Brickyard, fuse number 7 is either "spare" or LH side & tail lights

I'd be checking the earth crowns first though, give everything a thorough clean and re-crimp

earth crowns, the earth for the dash is commoned with something else and the high beam led becomes path of least resistance, can sometimes be solved just with contact cleaner spray but well worth doing the job properly, on a rhd access isn't too bad, remember to disconnect the battery before removing the fuse board

Had exactly the same problem. Removed all the earth leads from the crown, cleaned crown and spade connectors, and had to replace a couple of spade connectors that looked OK but had cracked and corroded. Put it all back and the lights worked as they should.
