Hi folks,

'92 Doka 2.1 Syncro.
Now, I know the obvious answer to the question of "How do I improve my fuel economy?" is ;

a) Dont drive it
b) Sell it etc

.. but what can I do to make it more efficient? I've just seen a leap from 17mpg to 20mpg by changing the rusted-to-buggery exhaust, and I'm going to be fitting road tyres shortly. I'm also going to have an LPG conversion done aswell.

Droping out the propshaft/driveshafts? (though I dont really want to lose the 4WD ability). Would fitting a Decoupler help?

lpg it and be happy with 16p mile current average ppmile and try a few different cruising speeds to find the best one for your ear and your wallet, it'll be quieter than a diesel that costs the same or less to fuel

So will the Decoupler make an appreciable difference?

he said economy. If your getting 20 of mpg just accept it. If your really want to get the best possible mpg then as adian said you should think about lpg. You could also fit a vacume gauge which will help you moniter how you drive

Oh yeah and I always feel my vans drive better after a wash, less dirt means less drag perhaps ?

decoupler will make no worthwhile difference to fuel economy imho

You would be a long time paying back the price of a decoupler .....

Make it your daily driver - I did - you'll soon get back the outlay in saved fuel.
I'm giving serous consideration to doing the installation course at Tinley tech, then I could do our other vans and add another string to the company bow (subject to planning permission, obviously...)
Steve's done a nice job on the SA but I can't be running the length of the country for servicing or alterations.
I do have a mate very local to me with his own 2-post Stenhoj lift though...and he's getting a bit old for the spanners...could rent workshop time there

That's the plan - had my old Westie done by them (or by Pete, rather), and twas great. Bit of a trek from Oxon tho.

Changing the Lambda on mine made a big difference.

how do you know if the lamda needs changing and how much difference did it make?
mine does 300 miles to 60 litres. any improvement on that would be wicked.

if you have a dj (112hp) engine which i think you have, then you dont have a lamba probe on it,
