100amp alternator - which one and where?

Hello lovely people....
My leisure battery is not recharging enough with my standard alternator so I'm looking to fit a 90 or 100 amp alternator.
I have a 1.6td (JX) engine. Could anyone tell me which alternator would do the job?
Thanks to all for the replies on previous posts, really appreciated.
David

A 55A alternator recharges my 110Ah leisure adequately. You need to check that you are getting optimum charge into the battery to start with,it's in good condition, you are not expecting too much from it etc.
A larger capacity alternator is not necessarily going to solve it. eg if you are trying to run a 12v fridge + thirsty music system + kettle + curling tongs + your heated seats and so on 24hrs a day from a 70Ah battery it would not help.

David, either your battery is shagged or your Alternator is faullty.
try changing the brush pack on the Alt. first

this rings a bell.
i got a new relay (still the same). in the end i had to run a new high amperage wire down to the leisure battery completely bypassing the one already fitted by vw. it now works as it should.
vw ran a wire all the way to the front of the van? to a connector then back to the leisure battery? stupid idiots. everyone with a decent IQ knows short runs of wire are better and connections can go open circuit (or hinder continuity) so why do it??

That's another reason for advising the fitment of 100A cable from split charge to leisure - voltage drop is minimised.

Thanks for all the advice...
I've changed the brush thingy on the alternator and its still not putting out enough...
Think I'll bit the bullet and buy a new one or take the 65a one off the Syncro. Am I right in thinking this one below would (should) do the job?:

VW Heritage are out of 90a ones and Brickwerks dont do them. If anyone knows somewhere else where I can find a nice Bosch one please let me know.
Thanks, David.

Golf Mk 1 are 90 amp and fit straight on
shame the brush pack didn't fix it, still you can use it in your new one
check out Wood auto aswell they sell these alternators aswell

Thanks for that. I've had a look at Wood's website, looks cheaper than everywhere else I've seen for a new one.
WIll the 90a one cause me any issues with my JX (1.6td) or anything else in the van. Doesnt seem to be listed for use with a 1.6td so thought I'd make sure before I blow more money on the van.....

Bit of a little one but you might need to get a new V belt - I think they are different depending on the alternator.

Umm, tad embarrased to say but I picked one up from a breaker off a Passat, same pulley, fitted straight on 90amp .............£15 plus the new brush pack.

No not really embarrased, just that it was in perfect condition, nice and clean and I fealt like I robbed him, makes a change that way round when dealing with a breaker yard, it just had the yards normal paint marking that said 1.8 Passat 95
