Fuel Tank Filler Neck

Garage man went to replace the fuel filler neck as it leaks, reckons he can't get the seal inside the tank, no longer done by VW. Any ideas? I haven't got the VW part number but will have it later on tonight if that helps.

Early or late tank?

Seals for early tank discontinued so if you can't find somebody who happens to have one lyign around you will need a new later model tank and filler neck

Check out JK's I think they do an adapter seal. I'm sure I stumbled across one earlier. Worth a look......

My tank was leaking where the neck went into the seal ('83 diesel) and I took the seal out, cleaned it all up, and put it back in liberally coated with grease, and it hasn't leaked for nearly 2 years.

Maybe worth a try?

I got one from JK for an early tank a couple of months ago, assuming you have the large diameter filler pipe ? Not cheap, but cheaper than a new tank and all the bits, it might also be a bit porous on the top where the dimple is.

I'd love to Pete, but buying a house has just cleared me out, so unless you can do me a freebie as a demo I'm going to have to save up for a while

speak to just campers over the phone, as they sell the early seal ( large )
and the late seal ( smaller ) if i remember correctly they are about £10.
if you have the early type check the shape of the filler neck where it goes into the tank, as mine was out of shape and this is where it was leaking from.
the best way to tell what type you have is the early ones are metal and the later ones are plastic.
