Anyone know the gross weight of a Caravelle? I'm trying to see if I could tow one with my Volvo V40? Any thoughts? I can get the lend of a 4wheel tilting bed plant trailer. The trailer has brakes too.

If in fact you mean the Nett weight ie, the kerbside weight? here what it says in my VW manual -
Unladen weight without driver = 1440 kgs (any accessories or extras not taken into consideration)
Total permissable weight = 2360 kgs
Hope this helps.

So! How did your car cope with the weight?
Did the outfit try to take over on the overun?

The car coped admirably actually. The main adventure was when one of the tyres on the trailer packed in!! I don't think this was related to the weight of the van though. It was a heavy duty trailer with reinforced tyres on. Didn't half scare me when it went!!
After putting the spare on I drove steadily and braked in plenty of time drawing up to a gradual stop each time. I didn't go over 50 the whole 120mile round trip. I will not be picking the van up again, she'll be coming home under her own steam!!
