I finally done it!

Yes having been tipped of about a potential MOT failure BY elite who did my engine I took the bull by the horns and removed my fuel tank. The problem was an area of rust to the right of my drivers seat well within the distance permitted in an MOT. Trouble is this is only inches away from the fuel filler and having been involved in a couple of vehicle fires I just haven't got the bottle to weld anywhere near a fuel tank full or empty.
I have to say that I was horified by the tales of plumbing woe in an earlier thread and this was not lesseded when I took mine out. While my exansion and crossover pipes were all in place I do have a split and degraded filler tube rubber. I believe this contributed to the rust. These appear to be unobtainable new so I will manufacture a suitable replacement set up. Although my tank and plumbing was otherwise sound I have cleaned and hammerited it and intend to replace and Jubilee clip all pipes. I realise it will be tricky to get all the pipes back on as I refit the tank but intend to fit the expansion tank and hopefully the crossover pipes to the tank and theead the free ends as it goes up. Fingers crossed. I anyone is interested that large circular plastc bezel gismo around the filler cap rotates by a few degrees to remove just like a light bulb. I warmed mine witha hot air gun to make id easier.
All the work is done now except for replacing the tank. Maybe tomorrow now...
Cheers
