leaking sliding side window

I thought by cleaning all the gunk out of the channel in our sliding side window and refitting it with new rubbers I might have stopped it leaking but no.
I've just been watching the channel that the window slides in filling up with water as it chucks it down with rain, in a few minutes it was up to the top of the channel. The rubber on the inside also seems to be getting wet. I have tried drilling a small drainage hole in the bottom of the channel but that doesn't seem to work. The whole channel is wet.
Any ideas – do you think it's the rubber between the sliding / non sliding window that's warn out? If so, can this be replaced?
Thinking of giving up with the slider and try to get a non sliding side window, can't be doing with it!
