Tow bar wiring

Van already had a towbar fitted when i bought it, which i presumed would be wired...bought a trailer today, but found most of the lights don't work. Looks like just the indicators and rear lights were wired up!
i've sussed out all the other conections, but am i right in presuming i'll need to fit a relay into some circuits? Adding 2 more 21w brake lights into the brake circuit might overload the wiring i presume?

brake lights should be ok as they are only on for short periods at a time if you have fog light on your trailer i believe its usual to fit a switch to turn the fog lights off on the towing vehicle when trailer is plugged up

If the tow vehicle has read fog guards then the trailer "should" have them too, however most dont........

you can buy a 12n socket which should have the switch to disconnect the tow vehicle fog gaurds, but with a small trailer it isnt needed really, it only to stop glareback in your mirrors.....

just dont bugger about with scotch "botch" locks, 5mins longer now will save 2hrs in 6 months rewiring it properly......
